But it would be probably impossible to stop the invasion of Warsaw Pact troops as Leonid Brezhnev was at that time more frightened from Prague Spring that from any complaints from Washington. The declassified documents of CIA relating to Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia show President Lyndon Johnson was warned that military action could happen. More see here
