Ryszard Kaczorowski, R.I.P. (26 November 1919 – 10 April 2010), he was
the last President of Poland in exile. His personal story represents
also the story of modern Poland. In 1940 he was arrested by NKVD, then
released after Germany attacked Soviet Union, he fought in battle of
Monte Cassino and in 1990 he passed presidential insignia to Lech
Walesa. President Kaczorowski was aboard the plane which crash near Smolensk airport killing 96
people including the Polish President Lech Kaczynski. More see here
